Evaluation

On Thursday we performed and completed our final multimedia production of 1984. This term Multimedia played are large role in our unit. As well as helping to enhance our performance multimedia in a way was the performance  in its self. The use of costume, lighting, video and sound made the performance and the world more realistic and interesting for the audience.

The simplicity of the Costumes meant the audience where able to decide for them selfs the purpose and meaning of each character by the way their actions and emotions preceve them but not by the way an individuals outfit represented them, as most members of the cast were dressed head to toe in black with only the actors working as iner-party members dressed in more formal costumes, clearly showing to the audience that they have more power and superiority to the wrest of the cast. Along with that the audience was also given masks numbers 1 to 100, ( inspired by Punch Drunk) which not only allowed us to identify audience members but also involved and made them feel more like a part of the performance and the world. And the fact that each mask was numbered constently reminded the audience that in this world they were more like a statistic then an individual human being.

Another major multimedia tool used In our performance was the use of light. Lighting meant the atmospher of each room could be easily created, with the areas kept quite dark and dimly lit presenting a moody, intimadating feeling and in the rooms more brightly light giving a more invighting and comfortable atmosphere. For example in the "space" where I spent most of my time in and around the performance, also where we gave the 2 minutes hate presentation was kept rather dark with only light produced by video projected onto the wall and the small flashing yellow lights provided by Jacob to create the lighting. These yellow flashing lights effected the audience by irritating and leading them to a sense of anger, insenting the message of that room at the time which was hate.

In the room that me and my group where assigned with, it was meant to be a place  ware to a certain amount the people living in this world could feel relaxed. So not many multimedia tools where used as it was meant to be a place where people felt as if they weren't being followed and watched by the technology around them, with only a picnic blanket and basket to decorate the space to try and create a calm atmosphere.

Over all I was very pleased with our performance and how everything went even though I was quite optimistic at first and there were a few things that could have been done to improve it such as, maybe being assigned with more time to work on the unit and prepare. But because of that we had the experience of  working in a very short time to a dead line and also because of the way the show was done, being Imersive it allowed us to improve our skills in improvisation. I was also really happy with the way the multimedia worked with the production and I was suprised how the space that we already had, our school, provided  so many assets to our performance because like in 1984 our production was set within a world ware everything like school is very architecturally dull and intearied to be quite bland and boring. I'm very happy with how everything went and am very great full to have been a part of the expirence.

Rosa Monolog

Stanley, Stanley I don’t understand how this emotion or what this emotion is but all feel is this warmth when you’re near me or the words get stuck in my tongue like stutter.  When you bumped into me, my heart knocked the books from arms and across the floor…. (Touch his face) when I realised it was you I didn't know what to do because all that echoed in my brain was THOUGHT CRIMANAL…. THOUGHT CRIMANAL and I didn't understand. I'm ready to take the risk… but only if you are. The feelings I have aren't natural but they’re here and there still true feelings. The betting that we will get caught is high but at least we died trying. (Slowly walks around looking round looking at every detail) My mind is made up of how I feel and I can’t change unless you brain wash me into changing my mind.  I don’t know whether to admit it to you yet about how I feel as I'm scared myself but this is the only risk I will ever take in  my life which yes may cost my life but I am willing to take it. The most important thing is where together … here right now and that’s all that matters right?

If Big Brother hears what I'm saying or thinking I dare to think what they would do to me. My heart fears when I think this… but I think of you and it’s all worth it.  Things they do to people when if they find about thought crime are horrible but if I can just have a another second with you it would be worth it.

I can I finally say it without being scared… I love you

Script for Stanley and Rose

Stiff body language ,very awkward atmosphere between them, quite cold with each other almost like complete strangers, cautious with each other and people around them. Rosa: Good afternoon sir. Stanley: Good afternoon mam how are you today? Rosa: yes im double plus good thank you. A lovely day we have in airstrip one today. Such a shame about this war. Good thing we have the government and the ministry of peace though, without them airstrip one would be chaos with though crime on the rampage. Stanley: yes! And imagine, all those thought criminals that claim this war isn’t real.they are the reason we have not won yet. The doubters! We must find them and get rid of them, report any suspected thought crime, they did us a favour. It was for the party! For big brother. Rosa: indeed, its very ungood. It makes me feel unsettled and angrythat there are thought criminals still roaming free in our land. It makes me feel even more ungood that I was once considered on of them. What a fool I was. I am so glad they found me out. The party only did it out of the kindness in their hearts. Stanley: yes, well thank big brother for though thought police and such. Its double plus good we have the party to protect us in this time of conflict and need. Rosa: Yes. It was double plus good talking with you Stanley. Stanley: yes you too Rosa. Rosa and Stanley go to part ways, Rosa stops and turns back Rosa: oh and Stanley Stanley stops to look back, rosa quickly looks around to make sure not many people are looking and winks and Stanley. They then leave and go their separate ways

My personal timeline

In this performance I play the character of a solider who is secretly working as a rebel supporting the uprising of the government.

7:00 - 7:15 Welcoming and scanning people as they enter the space for the 2 minutes hate. If anyone is scanned as negative while entering, they will be blind folded and taken to be interrogated. Then I help clear the hall of all the spectators so it is ready for the next presentation given by the Anti - sex league.

7:15 - 7:30 Along with some of the other soldiers I will petrolling around the corridor and I had a meeting with the character of George Orson ( the rebel leader ) who was hiding under as an old homeless man, to talk about the uprising. Straight after that I have to head straight back down stairs for the next group hate showing.

7:30 - 7:45 The next group hate show will begin and me and jacob will be welcoming and scanning people as they enter. If anyone is scanned as negative while entering, they will be blind folded and taken to be interrogated. Then I help clear the hall of all the spectators so it is ready for the next presentation given by the Anti - sex league.

7:45 - 8:15 Then I continue to patrol the area making sure there are no crimes being committed and if they are, i will be dealing with them. And then at 8:15 I will start to direct the audience outside to watch the uprising, that I will take part in.

8:15 - 8:30 During this time the uprising will be happening and I will be playing my role as a rebel, taking part in the dance along with everyone else and also helping to tie Obrien to the tree.

Performance ideas

For the performance sir has assigned us with the Grass land outside the school in which we will divise a scene and script for the performance.

In the first scene Rosa (Julia) and Stanley (Winston) will meet each other for the first time, my group and I were thinking of Rosa and Stanley meeting for the first time, by Rosa dropping her bag like in the film and Stanley helping to pick up her books. In this scene there will be very few words, with mainly just facial expressions and their actions to help them express there feeling to the audience. Eventually they will begin to start talking more, this will then lead onto a monologue give by Rosa on her feeling towards Stanley and the risk she is taking by being with him, lasting for 10 minutes.

Then all of sudden, before Stanley even gets a chance to tell Rosa about his true feelings, guards come running in and takes them both away to room 101. After their punishment in room 101 they will have a picnic this will show the audience how they have changed and what room 101 does to people . Then date will be interrupted by the revolution happening.

Evaluation of session 2

During today's lesson we have began to plan out and devise our adaptation of 1984.

Last week we where assigned to specific groups and rooms where we began to brainstorm and come up with ideas for what would be happening through out the show in and around those rooms. Coming to the lesson this week, each group presented there ideas to sir and the class to be put into a time line, visually helping us to start and understand what will be happening during the hour performance. This was very useful as it allowed everyone to begin to see how our ideas would work and come together as one, also meaning we could look at where any changes would need to be made, for the first time time working as one big collective of both groups.
